As the first and only organic born house, we are writing a new page in the Grande Charte Champenoise of 1,114 by combining in a demanding way the gifts of nature and the talent of men
Grande Charte Champagne’s global reputation was established by word of mouth

Soul

The champagnes of the Grande Charte House keep in mind the truth of their terroir: ancestral vineyards where the light, after having tamed the winter and played with the beautiful season, sometimes lingers in the softness of the autumn.

Produced with strict respect for nature, these wines echo real landscapes where each hillside, each plot of land, each grape variety is recomposed in rare cuvées. Those of a House guided by attention and care, for whom organic champagne remains a matter of requirement, sincerity and heart.

Wine, fine wine, is achieved by the terroir

Therefore, the founders of Grande Charte surrounded themselves early on, long before the house was named and established, with a small circle of growers whose vines produce absolutely exceptional grapes.

Vine and
the grapes

The vineyards are the cornerstone on which we build to sublimate the work of our winemakers.

The Earth

Respecting the earth means humbly adapting to the rhythm of the seasons, to the vagaries of the weather, to the constraints imposed by the fragility of living organisms; it means accepting the risks inherent in organic winegrowing, foremost among which are the hazards of production. Every decision and every action of the winegrowers of Grande Charte is made under the seal of respect and protection of the Earth. Starting with the daily integration of permaculture principles and the exclusive use of natural products.

If this constant attention favours the rooting and the blossoming of the vine, it guarantees the expression of each terroir in the wine. To reflect these specificities as closely as possible, the House has chosen to work with three winegrowers whose plots of land, worked organically or even biodynamically, allow the best of the Champagne grape varieties to be expressed.

The Fruit

Honour to the Marne Valley and its favourite grape variety: the pinot "Meunier"which takes its name from the back of its floury-looking leaf. Less well known than pinot noir, it nevertheless conceals treasures of elegance punctuated by notes of hazelnut and white flowers, which the winegrowers of the Grande Charte patiently reveal.

The Pinot Noir of Grande Charte come from the Côte des Bars, a hilly area crossed by the Aube and Seine rivers and adjacent to Burgundy, the cradle of this grape variety. Powerful and full-bodied, they structure the wine while ensuring its ageing potential.

As for Chardonnay, Grande Charte reveals its vinous elegance on two terroirs: on the one hand the Marne Valley and on the other hand the Aube, including the slopes of Montgueux.

Finally, in certain cuvées, Grande Charte underlines and intensifies the complexity of the blend by adding a particularly rare grape variety: the Pinot Blanc (White Pinot). Lighter than Chardonnay, it brings a spicy roundness and a discreet creamy fruit flavour.

Limited Editions

United, the founders, winemakers, cellar masters and oenologists study the best combinations that will sublimate the purity and aromatic complexity of each champagne.

This "limited edition" philosophy is reflected on each bottle's individual number.

Inspiration
Millenary

Written in 1,114 by Bishop Guillaume de Champeaux, the Grande Charte Champenoise lists the possessions of the abbey of Saint-Pierre-aux-Monts: a group of plots of land within the current AOC Champagne area. The Grande Charte Champenoise was the founding act of an already renowned vineyard and thus provides the basis for the history of a wine vowed to be extraordinary.

Born
